Fun with flowers!

I am working on a wedding shower for Sunday and could not seem to come up with an idea that pleased me. A friend gave me this little girls hanger one time and I read it about everyday! Thus the shower will be decorated in flowers! They make me happy! Several pink geraniums in clear glass bowls and containers with a bit of stone accents I think will make a beautiful table! How do you not like flowers! I'll try to post a picture of the finished project!

Rare finds!

On our return trip from Santa Fe we came through Las Vegas, New Mexico. We discovered a few interesting things and a quick stop at an antique store produced some rare finds. First, the Plaza Hotel built late 1800's and recently restored was amazing. It has 88 rooms now that it adjoins the building next to it. They were preparing for a grand opening of the new part on Tuesday so everything was tip-top shape. Between the two building there were enclosed courtyards. (which I didn't get a picture of) Beautiful! Next, United World College campus housed in what is called "the castle". A small college of only about 200 students from many countries. The idea is promote mutual understanding of cultural, religious, ethnic, and economic backgrounds thus fostering world peace. We actually didn't get to tour the castle but learned quite a bit about the college from locals. On the campus is a reflection chapel with prisms at all angles and is said to reflect light 24 hours a day if the moon and sun are out! Very pretty and reflective! Ha! As we walked around the square we found a few antique shops and this little bunny teapot and salt and peper shakers called my name! I passed it at first but as we were leaving town circled back by and purchased it! Too cute!

Spontaneity at 55!

"There is a trade off - as you grow older you gain wisdom but you lose spontaneity."
Kenny Rogers

Not us!!!

As a snowstorm and howling winds prevailed in western Oklahoma on Saturday morning, I could see the wheels turning as Mike scrolled on the computer screen between customers. Not to my surprise about 11:00 he says, "We should just load up and go skiing!" We close at noon and by 1:30 we are on the road to Santa Fe to ski despite all the weather warnings of no travel. I have to admit the media loves drama because the highways were clear as a bell and the sun was shining. (Children forget I said that!) We met some dear friends in Amarillo for a late lunch and talked and laughed then on to New Mexico. We discussed on the way the many times we have been skiing over the past 35 years but could not remember a time when it was just the two of us, making this trip even more unique! A bright sunny day, several inches of fresh snow, no crowds, no wind, beautiful scenery and the man I love all add up to a "bucket list" day! I couldn't ask for more! "It was a great day to be alive!" We might not put in quite the hard day (especially Mike) as we used to but we were both pretty proud of ourselves and had no sore muscles this morning! We planned to ski again today (Monday) but the weather forecast called for 50-60 mile an hour winds so we opted to just take our time home and leave with a wonderful memory!

We love to take the road less traveled so ventured home for awhile on a different road through Las Vegas, New Mexico. Very interesting! More on a different post tomorrow!
Give me spontaneous any day!

Pass it on!

Grant me a sense of humor, Lord,
the saving grace to see a joke,
To win some happiness from life,
And pass it on to other folks.

I saw this little verse in reading some "St. Patrick's Day" blogs and just thought I'd pass it on!

Spring is on the way!

I am so excited! The daffodils are coming up and about to bloom, tulips and iris are popping through the dry soil, and lo and behold these sweet little crocuses are blooming! Mindy took art lessons from Evelyn Diffendaffer a well known artist from this area for several years. I think it was therapy for all of us. We remember going to art lessons and taking a stroll with Evelyn through her garden and hearing her comments such as "Look at this sweet little thing! Such a delicate little bloom!" or "Aren't these just precious?" As as took a walk through my yard today instead of looking at the mountains of work needing to be done I chose to just marvel and enjoy "these precious little blooms" and work another day! Spring is coming!! YES!

Just bury me in the islands!

We had a great time on our cruise to St. Martin, St. Thomas, Grand Turk! I am sure that in heaven there are white sand beaches, crystal blue water, bright, warm sunshine, palm trees, and beach chairs!!! Doesn't the song say "We'll meet on that beautiful shore!" We just enjoyed and relaxed! Each port we either took a taxi or walked to the beach! We spent a couple of days in Ft. Lauderdale before leaving and really enjoyed seeing all of the beautiful yachts and homes. Public transportation there includes a water taxi which navigates the many canals with a bunch of stops. It was fun to ride awhile and then get off and look around then hop back on to another stop! One of the things we really enjoy about cruising is meeting people from all over the world. Each night we had dinner with some new people. Many Canadians and Northeasterners on this trip I am sure trying to escape the cold! People are as a general rule very nice and interesting! You do however met a few cantankerous souls who are way too pampered in my book! If you are not happy on a cruise I am thinking you are just not happy! As for me, I am thinking cruise ship instead of nursing home!

Blog regrets!

Well, I was so excited to get started blogging and then poof I just quit! Actually Mike got me a new laptop for Christmas so I thought I would really get into it! But I have discovered the world of blogging so end up just reading unlimited numbers of blogs instead of posting. As I have discovered other blogs I started messing with customizing hence the conglomerations of lips and Christmas over the past few months. I am going to get it figured out someday. I did finally figure out how to get something off but now have this other mess! So just ignore or pass on information to me on blog layouts! I have really seen some cute ones and enjoyed others playlist of music. Always something to learn!
